This term has been a very special term for me. As everything was shut down due to pandemics, I’m grateful that I was still able to work during this difficult time. This remote working opportunity and the project that I worked on has taught me a lot of essential things that are valuable for my personal life and as well as for my professional career after graduation.
I experienced lots of difficulties and had hard times to cope with tough situations. But overall, I think it was a great term that helped me to grow as a better person and a better employee. Here a list of things I summarized that this term’s work experienced helped me to prepare myself for my employment after graduation:
- Self-care
This term’s remote work helped me understand the significance of self-care. Before this term, I wasn’t aware of the importance of self-care and never practiced it in real life. After a term of remote studying and working, I realized self-care is vital after all to keep myself healthy and engaged in the works that I’m involved in. However, self-care is a big word. It includes taking care of personal schedules, rest well, diet control, and so on. Maintaining self-care skills is crucial to prepare me to get ready for the after-graduation’s career life.
- Emotional Adjustment
I had many emotional traumas this term. Whether it’s from the pandemics, relationships, or family, it made me harder to concentrate on my project. To overcome my emotional issues, I learned to meditate and actively find support from people surrounding me. I think emotional adjustment was one of the critical things that can help me be more capable of working in different environments.
- Time Management
Throwback to the beginning of my remote work early this term, I had difficulties in ensuring works being done within a given time. That said, my unsuccessful time management and planning caused this issue. After spending time to practice better time management, I’ve finally enhanced my overall workflow, and I was able to work more efficiently.
- Stress and Anxiety Relief
As I was unable to go out and interact with people in real life, I was somewhat self-isolated this term. On the other hand, my project this term was utterly new and strange to me. While the project doesn’t fall into my expertise, I was learning everything from the very beginning of my project. With all situations combined, I had stress and anxiety during my work this term. However, similar to how I coped with my emotional shifts, I meditate before I start to work. This has been helpful for me because now I can focus on my works better.
- Communications
I never experienced long-term remote work before this term. Hence, this term’s remote work was a new experience for me. While the communications are different from working in-person, I realized it’s important to keep other persons at work stay informed about any updates. Additionally, I realized it’s always good to reach out to other people at work for any questions I have.
All these things above are the things I learned from this term’s remote work. After learning all these things, I’m now feeling more prepared for my career after graduation. I will keep learning and perfect things I learned from this term’s experience.
