As a business student with a marketing concentration, this term’s work was very beneficial for my future career. Website design and development is a huge aspect in the marketing field and I will put this project on my resume because I think employers will find this skill valuable especially as technology continues to be a huge part of our work lives as well as in general. Website design is a function of marketing. Where the user’s eyes navigate to first, how easy the site is to navigate through, what items should be on the menu bar, etc. I have always liked website design and after this term’s work, I could see myself in this career pathway. I took graphic design in high school and enjoyed that. I can combine website translation and graphic design and start learning how to design websites as well. The website translation process taught me how frustrating technology can be but in the end it was rewarding to see my work come together as a final product.
I also think employers will find this skill/experience valuable. Within the marketing department, the positions, website designer and website developer are highly demanded due to how rapidly we are shifting towards online shopping from brick and mortar stores. I feel like this term’s project allowed me to dip my toes in the website design and translation and made me realize this could be a career pathway I might want to explore. And since website translation or design is already within the realm of marketing, there will be many opportunities to utilize this skill.
` Not only did I learn how to translate a website, I also learned the importance of taking a big project step by step. I think doing so relieved any stress I had towards this project and allowed me to put my best efforts into each step. During the translation process, I worked on one component of the site at a time. This skill can be applicable anywhere especially in the future when I have bigger projects at work. I can break it down into smaller tasks so that I can put my full efforts into each one, while still meeting the deadlines. Wireframing was one of the smaller tasks that I did not realize would be so valuable in the process, but seeing the layout of the site on paper provided a helpful visual when I started building on the site.
I think website translation was a great way to start practicing website design because I was given a site to recreate with tools I had never used before. Since I had a template, it allowed me to familiarize myself with WordPress, Divi, and codes. Now in the future, if I ever have to design a website for work, I can start the design process immediately. I can let employers know that if they have a design of a website in mind, I can create it quickly since I am now familiar with the WordPress and Divi tools.
