An Inside Look on Marcus’ Untold Stories: The Hidden History of the University of Oregon Digital Translation

The digital project translation I worked on this term was to translate the “Untold Stories: The Hidden History of the University of Oregon” site from Omeka and Curatescape to WordPress. The original website was built on Omeka. Though Omeka is an excellent platform that stores metadata and is easy to access to documents from the database, however, it’s less flexible in terms of design and layout. Essentially, it can be hard to manipulate the content that one wants to display on the website. WordPress, on the other hand, has the absolute advantage on website customizations and can make the web design much better and easier to navigate. Most importantly, compare to Omeka, WordPress is much easier to use and can build a site much faster.

For the translation project I worked on this term, I extracted and collected all sorts of data from the original “Hidden History” website and created a new WordPress site with identical content but enhanced web design and navigation. On the new WordPress site, I redesigned some parts of the original site and made improved some minor details to make the new WordPress site more accessible. After all, I created a new translation site for the “Hidden History” on WordPress with identical content but different designs.
